I Heart Faces: Happy Birthday

eta: I just now realized that I forgot to link back to IHF!! Yikes! So sorry, how rude of me...

This may, perhaps, be a bit of a stretch for this week's theme. The rules state that a post entered in the Kid's Category; "Must have a child in it and clearly be a birthday celebration of some sort." This picture is from about 10 min after Judah was born. (Although you can't see it, his umbilical cord is still attached and the placenta is not yet delivered.) So obviously a Birth Day, and let me assure you, there was plenty of celebrating going on. eta. this was our second homebirth, those are my birth beads in the shot--handmade for me by my sister, he was also our second waterbirth, and you can read about our choice for his name here. All these things I thought might interest some of you :)

I had to mess with it quite a bit-- the original shot was taken with a lousy point-n-shoot. Anyone have tips on their favorite thing to do with p and s shots that are good in composition, but lousy in lighting and color? Is there some great action specifically for this? I'd love to know about it. And if you just love this cute little boy, you can go here to see more of his Birth Day pics.

oh i was hoping someone would post a BIRTHday shot. Great work. I only have a point and shoot, too, so i rely on Picnik to help my shots come alive...

I did a midwives with my 3rd child. My first two were in the hospital but decided to go natural with the 3rd. it was the greatest experience and within 6 hours I was back in the comfort of my home. She was due around Christmas and I didn't want to have to worry about ruining Christmas by being stuck in the hospital for three days for my two little boys!

Most definitely a BIRTHday shot!! What are birth beads? Like prayer beads? I have always wanted to homebirth but usually need some assistance but I always do natural birth. Really wanted water birth the last time but little guy came too quick. Thanks for visiting my blog. It was really just lucky on my shot, my camera is a SLR but I had it set on AUTO. I took several shots and in the one I posted it happened to focus on the candle flames and kinda naturally blurred the face in the background. I would think you could get the same affect playing with the aperture. btw, we homeschool too but I seldom post anything about that anymore since photography has been my latest passion until something else strikes...

Oh yay, a BIRTH day pic! I don't really like any of mine, seeing as how I looked like a beached whale and all. ;) But this one is great! I like how there is a circle of light on you two. I sometimes use Picnik, but I usually use PaintShop Pro X1 - it has a "Smart Photo Fix" tool that I use to tinker with brightness, shadows, etc. I would guess that PhotoShop has something similar?
