Request

I desperately need some new recipes. Not the fancy, company-coming-over, hours-in-the-kitchen kind. I need some new basic, dinner time, get-food-on-the-table-asap kind. Like Chili. Or macaroni and cheese. Only not those. And I'm particularly looking for things that are fairly cheap and healthy-- no canned stuff or packets of seasonings and such. Also, veggies are good. Got any ideas? When you're pressed for time and need an idea do you have a favorite website you head to? What's your family's favorite meal?

I've been using www.recipezaar.com for years now, but I'm starting to get bored. Also, they do tend to use a lot of "short-cuts", like canned soup and flavor packets. I recommend it, though. Have any of y'all tried it before?

Tonight we made beef stroganoff, which is insanely easy. Brown stew meat (or get a cheap cut of steak and chop it up, it's cheaper). Add a cup of beef broth (mug of hot water with dissolved boullion cube, cheaper!). Add some canned mushrooms. Soften a package of cream cheese by squeezing it in your hands, then slap it into the pan. Put a tbs. cornstarch in a little bit of cold water in a cup, then add to the pan to make the gravy nice and thick. Heat everything thoroughly and serve on cooked egg noodles with a veggie on the side. EASY!

Ah yes, stroganoff :) You're the second person to recommend that! Your recipe is different from mine and I'll have to try it sometime... but at the moment, that's one if the ones we're getting sick of right now! :) Any other pasta dishes you recommend??

I'm kind of in the same place. I've decided to try really different recipes this year so I made an easy chicken curry last week using the crock pot. It was easy, I did it in the morning and didn't think about it all day. It wasn't as spicy as I would like; so I picked out another one I'm going to try with more zestyness. If you want, I could send it to you or post it on my blog. I promise it was easy and not a "company" recipe.
Right now I am trying to stay away from pasta. NOT a good thing for me this time of year.
We enjoy stir frys. Pot pie is good. I also like to grill chicken tenderloins, and eat them in tortillas with cheese, lettuce, and ranch sauce like the fast food snack wraps.
Mexican is always a good thing: Tortillas, some pinto beans, and slap it full of veggies and cheese. Mmmm.
I make a lot of chili and soups, also. What about a white chili? With chicken and navy beans and such?
Oh and try AllRecipes.com - I have found some really good ones on there.

I love Allrecipes.com too! Course, I'm all about the "soup based" recipes -- I keep lots of Cream of whatever soups on hand (I know it's cheating, but hey, it's just stuff I'd put in anyway, I suppose, just all ready to go in!). I do a great Cheesy cabbage/sausage casserole that's quick and easy. Also, we love taco salad - Jeff could live on the stuff! And soups are always easy-- especially in the crock pot! Or I make a very quick Zuppa Toscana (the recipe for that is in my notes on FB I think). I've got lots of skillet recipes and casserole recipes (which I love as I can put it together ahead of time and throw it in the oven and then be available to hang out with Evie when she wakes up from her nap -- otherwise, I'm cooking dinner when she wakes up and I miss all the sweet cuddle time;)).
It all just depends on what kind of cooking you like to do!

Ooooh, I love the idea of rubber chicken! I have two "fix it and forget it" recipe books that are all crock pot recipes. You cut everything up in the morning, add your raw meat (if you're a carnivore), throw in the spices, and let it cook on low temp all day. It actually has recipes for everything from breads to desserts. Hosanna's mention of crock pot made me realize I haven't used it in a LOOONG time.

And I second Pioneer Woman's cooking section. Even if you don't try the recipes out in your kitchen, you're appetite will be amply fed by all her delicious pictures!!
